My name is Jolijn de Wolf and in 2016 I founded The Mythological Institute, a fictive platform from which I explore how art and storytelling can establish connections and communities. I say fictive, but how many believers does an institute need to become part of reality? I love to investigate this together with you! If you like, you can join me in a one-on-one performance or in a workshop with a group of people. We will use humor, play, and contemporary mythmaking as main research tools. Come and participate in a collective act of make-believe in the imaginary, open and flexible structure of the Mythological Institute.
Do you have a current one-to-one piece/pieces you tour with?
Yes, I do have!
The Thought Blueprint Project:
Add your thoughts to this living archive of thoughts which are translated into an image and captured in a cyanotype print (blueprint). During this one-on-one piece you can participate in this alternative form of personal storytelling, making a visual translation of thoughts by filling in the “Thought Exploration Form”, a questionnaire that encourages you to give your thoughts shape, texture, sent and sound. Together we translate these physical characteristics into an image and make a blueprint out of the thought. After each performance, the produced Thought Blueprints can be placed in a file map and stored in the Thought Blueprint Archive.
Kleingoderij (The Online Museum of Small gods)
Does the Small god of Water likes to take showers? What is the Small god of Failure’s emotional status? What does the Small god of Procrastionation do in its daily life? And the most important question: what do these freshly made up Small gods actually say about us as humans?
In this project I invite participants to join me in an act of make-believe, by imagining a personal Small god. Creating a Small god is not an attempt to capture an omnipotent, supernatural, universal entity, but a playful exploration of what a tiny, everyday life god would look like. A Small god, suiting for this moment in the life of the participant. By talking, imagining together and doing a writing exercise, we work towards a creative visual representation of this Small god, which is then exhibited in the Online Museum of Small gods.

What is important for you to tell in this portal?
Art is a wonderful way to forge connections and establish communities. In these times of crisis and polarisation, the need for solidarity has increased tremendously. Let’s imagine our reality together and use the little time we have to explore, create and sustain our world!
